Created in 2016 as a digital space for short, humorous clips. Now the TikTok is something much more. It hits the social media giant Facebook straight but it also became synonymous with something much more awful: Challenges on the internet that show that users would do anything for 5 minutes of publicity.
Anyone who has been involved with TikTok for a while will have seen many who are willing to risk their reputation, even their bodies in front of the camera to gain influence on social media. A typical example is the guys from Jackass on Snapchat.
For example, a user recently had to be hospitalized as she tried to stick hair to her head with a powerful glue.
Unfortunately, the application search algorithm makes it extremely difficult to eliminate these often harmful trends before they are uncontrolled on the Internet.
So let’s look at 8 of the most ridiculous and dangerous challenges that have come to light on TikTok.
1. Vampire teeth
Speaking of the Super Glue fiasco above, several users went viral last Halloween after their vampire fangs got stuck in their teeth. The enviable clips – which, using the hashtag #VampireFangs, garnered over 9 million views – depicted several people trying to remove false teeth after fixing them to their incisors using Super Glue, nail glue and other adhesives.
2. Teeth filing
And since we caught the teeth, the filing of the teeth with… files for the nails is another challenge that broke at TikTok.
For the uninitiated, the challenge involved several users trying to correct their uneven smiles by using a nail file to brush their teeth. It was basically the equivalent of a reshaping procedure involving enamel removal that one would receive from a cosmetic dentist.
However, in contrast to the latter, these independent molar metamorphoses caused outcry from the dental community.
3. Waxing of the face
Complete facial hair removal is the new hot beauty fashion with videos of the painstaking process garnering millions of views on TikTok.
The procedure, shown here at the Kapsalon Freedom barber shop in the Netherlands, involves wrapping a patient’s face – including his eyes – with green wax at a mold-like spot. When it’s over, the rogue beautician peels the beauty mixture from the “victim”‘s face into a piece like a mask of evil in a slasher film.
Dermatologists call the procedure traumatic “for the skin, especially on sensitive areas such as those around the eyes.”
4. Corn on a drill
As part of a series of dangerous lifehacks, TikTokker professionals have tried to speed up their corn consumption by eating over a rotating drill. This feat gained international attention after pop star Jason Derulo broke 2 teeth while performing the trick.
5. The challenge of cereals
This challenge looks ugly from the start, but it could have a potentially dangerous end result. A person throws milk and cereal in the open mouth of a second person who is lying down and then eats breakfast from the human “bowl”.
TikTok provides an extensive list of “community guidelines” stating that the company does not allow “content that is too harsh or shocking, especially that promotes or glorifies violence or pain”. It also describes “dangerous activities or other dangerous behavior” that are not permitted, including activity that “encourages, promotes or glorifies such behavior, including amateur acrobatics or dangerous challenges”.
6. “Urinate your pants”
Nothing can stop coronavirus fatigue like a viral video, right? We will not say but a bored livestreamer when he heard the call of nature urinated on him by filming himself, inspiring many other lonely TikTokkers to follow their example.
The hashtag #peeyourpantschallenge quickly garnered 3.9 million views on TikTok, as well as piles of criticism from terrified commentators.
7. The coronavirus test
TikToker Ava Louise, who regularly seeks the attention of Dr. Phil took her profile to new heights in March when she went viral because she licked toilet seats on a plane. Making viral a really dangerous practice.
8. Eating frozen honey
TikTok’s latest gastronomic fashion challenge is extremely disgusting. Users participating in the #FrozenHoneyChallenge, which has about 90 million views, found a not-so-sweet side effect: Massive diarrhea.
The fast-paced trend, which started with just #FrozenHoney and now has 673 million views, involves filling a bottle of water with honey and freezing it before consuming it.
However, despite the millions of views on different trending hashtags, some TikTok users have experienced negative side effects associated with the extremely sweet snack. Many claimed that their honey water made them run to the bathroom with diarrhea or discomfort.
