This was the second week of “The Abyss” at the top of the ranking of films in a foreign language, that is, other than English.
The title premiered on streaming on February 16th and tells the story of Frigga (Tuva Novotny), a security manager at the Kiirunavaara mine who tries to balance work and family life. Her life turns upside down when the city of Kiruna begins to collapse due to mineral exploration.
The narrative is slightly inspired by a true story. In May 2020, an earthquake caused by mineral exploration hit the city of Kiruna, in the province of Lapland, in northern Sweden.
According to The Independent, 13 people were working in the mine at the time of the earthquake; There were no casualties or serious injuries. The site is home to the largest iron mine in the world, which has been operating since the end of the 19th century.
“The Abyss” is directed by Richard Holm and has Kardo Razzazi and Felicia Truedsson in the cast.
