The agenda of M. Varvitsiotis’ contacts during the first day of his visit to Berlin

The war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, Turkish provocation and immigration were among the issues raised in the context of the contacts of Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis during today’s first day of his visit to Berlin. Tomorrow, Mr. Varvitsiotis will meet, among others, with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for European Affairs and the Climate, Anna Luhrmann.

Today the deputy foreign minister had a meeting with the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federal Parliament Michael Roth (SPD) and the head of the secretariat of the Committee, Ursula Bell. At the heart of the meeting, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were issues such as the impact on Europe of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, sanctions against Russia and the energy crisis. Mr. Varvitsiotis also referred in detail to the ongoing Turkish provocation against Greece.

During his meeting with the vice-president of the German-Greek Friendship Parliamentary Group, MP of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) Carsten Treger and the group’s board, issues related to the Greek diaspora in Germany, but also to the energy challenges in Europe. Mr. Varvitsiotis referred there in detail to the targeted moves the Greek government has made to deal with the immigration issue, while he thoroughly informed the members of the Group about Turkey’s aggression.

Earlier, the deputy foreign minister had a meeting with the vice-president of the German Association for Foreign Policy (DGAP), Ambassador Rolf Nickel, while he visited the offices of the European Council of Foreign Relations and had a meeting with Dr. Anna Kuchenbecker, Director of Strategic Partnerships, during which there was an exchange of views on current European policy issues.

Tomorrow, Mr. Varvitsiotis will meet with the Parliamentary Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for European Affairs and Climate, Anna Luhrmann, while he will have a conversation with the vice-president of “Atlantik Brücke” and member of the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Norbert Rotgen.
