The Albanian authorities do not allow Freddy Beleris to be sworn in as mayor of Kheimarra

Freddy Belleris filed through his lawyers a request for a special purpose permit to attend the swearing in of the municipal council of Heimarrasas was elected mayor in recent elections.

However, Albanian authorities rejected the request, according to the himara.gralthough the legislation provides for the granting of leave to prisoners.

Also, what the prosecutor of the Special Court relies on is that “there is a criminal record with Freddy Belleris” that’s why they don’t release him, because as they claim “when he had been punished in 2003 for allegedly insulting Albania’s symbolswhen he prevented at the risk of his life – as an electoral representative in the village of Piliuri – the theft of the ballot box by parastatals, in the municipal elections of the same year, he had moved away from Albania and returned when the case had expired”.

Thus, according to ERT’s correspondent in Albania, based on the legislation there, a deputy mayor will assume his duties, who will be appointed by a cabinet majority controlled by the Socialist Party, so he will be a supporter of Edi Rama and will manage the municipality of Heimarra until further notice.
