The removal of the parliamentary immunity of the former president of the Republic and prime minister and current leader of the opposition Sally Berisha the Albanian Parliament decided today, paving the way for his arrest and prosecution for corruption.
This decision was accompanied by intense protests by opposition MPs who overturned chairs, lit smoke bombs and shouted slogans!
Berisha himself he called the decision a criminal and gross violation of the Constitution and called his followers to permanent demonstrations disobedience to the state, until the overthrow of the Rama regime, as he calls the government of the socialists.
The anti-corruption prosecution (SPAK) had requested the lifting of immunity investigates possible involvement of Berisha, as prime minister, in cases of land sales in Tiranafor the benefit of his relatives.
The prosecution had imposed restrictive conditions on Berisha, in the form of his mandatory appearance at the police at regular intervals, which the former president and prime minister did not comply with.
So now he is faced with two possibilities: to be remanded in custody, which is difficult as he exceeds the age limit provided for by law, or to be put under house arrest.
It is noted that as a suspect of corruption, Berisha has been declared undesirable in both the USA and Great Britain.
