Huami, the manufacturer of smart watches Amazfit, has announced a new operating system Zepp OS. Its development was the result of dissatisfaction with the current operating systems for wearable devices: they, alas, are not highly specialized (for example, the functions of monitoring vital signs are not in the foreground), cumbersome and demanding on the resources of the hardware platform.

The size of Zepp OS is only 55 MB, but the developers fit the maximum possibilities into these megabytes. So, it implements new dynamic effects with a frame rate of more than 60 FPS, in addition to many functions for monitoring vital signs, there are also wide connectivity options, including 5G and LTE modems, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, TCP / IP. And even the functions of protecting personal data are implemented in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union.
Zepp OS is based on FreeRTOS, a real-time multitasking operating system. Low requirements for the hardware platform have reduced power consumption by 65%, and the estimated autonomy of wearable devices with Zepp OS has almost doubled (compared to the previous OS). Thus, the new Amazfit smartwatch on a single charge will work much longer than its predecessors. Such finished devices are promised in the fourth quarter of this year.
