The American Hellenic Institute supports the need for strong defense assistance to Greece – Cyprus

The president of the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) Nick Laryngakis, in a written statement submitted to the Appropriations Subcommittee of the US Congress, on Government, Foreign Enterprises and Related Programs, supported the provision of strong defense assistance to Greece and the Republic of Cyprus The statement of the president of AHI was made in the context of the congressional consultation on the foreign aid proposal submitted by the Biden administration for fiscal year 2025. Mr. Laryngakis underlined the proven geostrategic importance of Greece for the United States. In this light he proposed to the Subcommittee: • An appropriation of $1.8 million for Greece through the International Military Education and Training (IMET) program. • Annual credit of $25 million for two years (2025 and 2026) for Greece through the European Recapitalization Incentive Program (ERIP). • An additional $6 million for Greece through the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program for fiscal year 2025. • A $500,000 credit for Cyprus […]
