A heroic teacher at a New Jersey school was filmed by security cameras as he made desperate efforts to rescue a student who he was drowning from a water bottle cap in the classroom last week.
The dramatic scene unfolded at the East Orange Community Charter School, after the 9-year-old boy tried to take a sip from the bottle of Poland Spring while sitting at his desk on Wednesday, as reported by WABC.
Unable to turn it lid with his hands, the pupil a third grader, identified as Robert, tried to use his teeth to do his job.
“Then I squeezed it a little and then the water pushed the lid down my throat,” Robert recalled in an interview with the news agency.
“I was going to the sink trying to get it out and I couldn’t, so I ran to Ms. Jenkins very fast,” said the student.
Jenkins took immediate action and quickly made the Heimlich maneuver after Robert ran towards her in agony in front of a class full of children.
“He was showing his throat and he was completely upset,” Jenkins told WABC.
“He can not speak, so then I just turned him around and did the Heimlich maneuver and we’re done,” said the teacher.
