The Assassination Of George Floyd. The Court Found The Policeman Guilty

In the United States, former police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of the murder of 46-year-old African American George Floyd. Reported by CNN.

A jury in Minneapolis found Chauvin guilty on all counts of murder in the second degree, murder in the third degree, and manslaughter.

The verdict will be handed down within eight weeks, on the most serious of charges, murder of the second degree, Chauvin faces up to 40 years in prison.

It took the jury a little less than a day to reach a verdict after three weeks of trial.

Several hundred people gathered outside the courthouse cheered the verdict.

US President Joe Biden said on Twitter: “No one should be above the law. Today’s verdict conveys that message, but it is not enough. We cannot be satisfied with what has already been achieved.”

In a statement to reporters, Biden called Floyd’s death “a murder in the bright light of day,” which “blew the blinders for the whole world to see … systemic racism.”

Chauvin pleads not guilty and is expected to appeal the verdict. One strategy may be to indicate high public attention to the case, which, in the opinion of the defense, may have influenced the jury.
