New York mayor Eric Adams announced the creation of a special advisory council on digital assets, which will provide legal and technological support for the city administration in the use of cryptocurrencies, blockchain and web3 technology.

Adams told the NYC Crypto Summit cryptophorum to participants that from the first day as the mayor, he set himself the goal of making New York “The Cryptostostolian of the World.”

“This is not about the pursuit of memes or trends. We use tomorrow’s technology to improve the lives of New York residents today, ”Adams said.

He noted that the new advisory council will develop practical recommendations on cryptocurrency policy for the New York authorities, and will also study the possibilities of applying blockchain in the field of state and municipal data management.

The initiative of the mayor of New York was supported by the technical director Matthew Fraser, who emphasized that the combination of financial inclusion and blockchain potential will allow municipal authorities to provide residents who do not have bank accounts.
