The average selling price of an iPhone increased by 14% last year compared to 2020 results. That being said, the popularity of the iPhone 13 has been a key factor in helping the global smartphone market as a whole reach a record annual revenue of $448 billion.

This is stated in the latest report of the analytical company Counterpoint on the results of 2021 in the international smartphone market.

Despite the shortage of components, the smartphone market grew by 7% year on year, with Apple taking the biggest piece of the pie. Apple accounted for 44% of its $196 billion in smartphone sales. Compared to 2020, the growth was 35%. Strong demand for the 5G-enabled iPhone 12 and 13 has led to a 14% increase in the average selling price of Apple smartphones – it reached $825 in 2021.

In second place is Samsung with 11% and $72 billion in revenue. The median price rose 5% to $263.

Xiaomi’s revenue increased 49% year-on-year to reach $36 billion in 2021, up from $24 billion in 2020, driven mainly by increased shipments and market share of mid-range and premium smartphones such as the Mi 11x series.

Oppo’s revenue rose 47% year on year to $37 billion. The median price is up 15% year on year to reach $259 in 2021. Vivo was also able to grow revenue significantly, up 43% year-on-year to $34 billion. The median price is up 19% year on year to reach $259 in 2021.
