The background of the expulsion of Lebanon from the government – Loud messages from Mitsotakis to the interior of the government-SW

By Dimitris Gatsios

Multiple messages of zero tolerance in phenomena of arrogance and in behaviors that are outside the value code of the Prime Minister and the New Democracy are sent by the direct move of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to dismiss the Minister of Rural Development, Spilio Libanos and to light the green in , Petrou Doukas, from the faction. And these messages of Mitsotakis’ instant reaction reach both inside the government and inside Piraeus Street on the way to the elections, showing that any such behavior in the future will not be tolerated.

The countdown for Mr. Libanos’s exit from the ministerial scheme began when the existence of a video became known at the Maximos Palace, in which a dialogue between the former minister and Mr. Doukas about the deadly fires of 2007 was recorded. The video shows the mayor of Sparta, addressing Mr. Libanos, to brag about the actions of himself and the then government of New Democracy, in which Mr. Doukas was Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance. “When he tells you about the issues of compensation for the frost, as you remember, we had gone to Ilia on fire then, so we won the elections in 2007.

“We had come down with bags and compensated all those who had…”, says the mayor of Sparta. “Sparta. The video now shows the former Minister of Rural Development intervening.” We have to answer this, since then you have been left in history with what you did there. According to information, the Prime Minister’s annoyance with the government official was obvious, so Kyriakos Mitsotakis decided to act immediately.

So he invited the Lebanese Spilios himself, who was in Strasbourg for the European Union Ministerial Meeting, and after hearing his explanations, he decided that he could not stay in government. “The reaction was unacceptable. Such behaviors are not tolerated by Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Mr. Libanos is a personal friend of the prime minister, but what was said by Mr. Doukas about a tragic event is out of the prime minister’s code of conduct. The minister’s reaction “Therefore, there was no room for Mr Libanos to remain in government,” government sources said, following the expulsion of Spilio Libanos from the cabinet.

According to executives, after the cynical dialogue between Mr. Libanos and Mr. Doukas, there was no room for the former minister to remain in the government. “If the prime minister’s move came as a surprise, it was because the previous government had never behaved in such a way. .

What Mr. Doukas said is completely unacceptable. That is why the completely wrong reaction of Mr. Libanos to the words of the mayor of Sparta, led to his resignation. “What Mr. Doukas said, obviously trying to highlight his own role, offends the people who suffered damage from the deadly fires but also offends New Democracy”, they point out, adding that the resignation of Lebanon and the strong condemnation by Mr. Mitsotaki for what Mr. Doukas said is a practical disapproval.
