The Albanians have come to the polls today for parliamentary elections in which Prime Minister Edi Rama is claiming a fourth term, following a pre -election campaign dominated by the promise of joining the European Union and the accusations of corruption. The constituencies were closed at 20.00, time in Greece. The results will be announced on Tuesday, the head of the Electoral Committee, Elijan Tselibasi, announced. Participation by 14.00 (local time) was 30.34%. Rama, the leader of the Socialist Party (PS) who has been ruling since 2013, is the favorite in these elections against former Prime Minister Sali Berisha of the Democratic Party (PD). A sixth POL, of the Albanian Post news portal based in Tirana and TV station Klan Kosova TV, based in Kosovo, shows the PS leading 51.8% and Berisha’s PD followed by 38%.
