Brazilian cinemas will receive this Thursday (12) “The Bastard “, a Danish film that was chosen to represent the country at the 2024 Oscars. The production stars Mads Mikkelsen star of the series “Hannibal” and winner of the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for “The Hunt”.
Directed by Nikolaj Arcel (“The Queen’s Lover”), the film is set in 18th-century Denmark and follows Captain Ludvig Kahlen (Mikkelsen), an impoverished war hero seeking to colonize an unexplored region. Determined to create a colony for the King, he faces the hardships of nature and the opposition of the ruthless nobleman Frederik De Schinkel.
The production distributed in the country by Pandora Films is an adaptation of the novel “The Captain and Ann Barbara”, by the Danish author Ida Jessen released in 2022.
Before arriving in Brazil, “The Bastard” received praise in Venice Film Festival 2023 and also made his debut in Toronto International Film Festival in the same year. Mads Mikkelsen, for his performance in the film, won the award for Best Actor at the European Film Awards, one of the biggest awards in European cinema.
