The “battle” for the cock and its origin continues: the Turks fight to claim “paternity”

An uproar has erupted between Greece and Turkey about the chick and its origin. The fight to claim the “presence” of the dish continues with even Hurriyet taking a position on its front page.

Speaking to the newspaper, in fact, experts, as emphasized by SKAI’s correspondent in Turkey, Manolis Kostidis they analyze that there are recipes for kokoretsi from 1883, which proves that it is Turkish after all.

On Monday (18/7), entire reports and front pages were dedicated to Turkish media, which pointed out: “After baklava, tzatziki and imam baildi, Greece is now also claiming kokoretsi! Greece advertises traditional Turkish food as its own. We discussed this issue with the chefs and they told us that we will not leave the chicken in the hands of the Greeks!”

There was also a report with Turks citizens to say in front of the camera: “I challenge them, it’s ours. Let them come and see, I make the best. They didn’t take us to the EU, now they’re going to take the chick too?”

“Let’s have a Greek come and eat kokoretsi together. Whoever eats more, then the chicken will be theirs,” pointed out another, while a third stated: “Our chicken is different, it’s wonderful. They go and claim our cock. The kokoretsi is something left from our ancestors.”
