The Belgians say “yes” to compulsory vaccination

In favor of compulsory vaccination More and more Belgians are coming, mainly in the north of the country (57%), according to an Ipsos survey by RTL INFO and the newspaper Le Soir.

As for the French-speakers, in the previous survey in March only one third of the inhabitants of the south were in favor of compulsory vaccination for coronavirus. Now the percentage is close to half of the respondents (49% in Brussels, 44% in Wallonia).

Alongside, two out of three Belgians are in favor of the European COVID certificate. The view of the Belgians (especially the French) therefore seems to be changing, as is the view of vaccination.

At the same time, 55% are against presenting the certificate before entering a restaurant, while 69% say no to its use in hair salons. On the other hand, in favor of using the certificate on the occasion of a big celebration, such as a wedding or a festival, the inclination is 65% and the positive percentage is 59%, when it comes to an indoor sporting or cultural event.

Regarding the vaccination of young people and children from the age of 12, Flemings seem to be more convinced with 62%, while French-speakers appear divided: about 45% yes, 31% no.

At the same time, three quarters of Belgians (74%) estimate that PCR tests should be free. Finally, the majority of citizens fear a fourth wave of infection at 55%, despite vaccines. The Flemings are a little more pessimistic than the French on the subject.

Except for Brussels, as broadcast by the Athenian News Agency There are 47% more people who say they will not go on holiday this summer than those who say they will (34%). About 1 in 5 Belgians do not yet know what to do.

The majority of those who will not leave justify it for financial reasons: 3 in 10 French speakers believe that they no longer have the means to leave. Among other reservations, Flemings point out the risk of disease prevention or the risk of a fourth wave, while Wallonia refers to the risk of restrictions in the holiday area.

Among those who wish to vacation, 2/3 choose abroad and not in Belgian destinations.

The survey involved 2,517 respondents (532 in Brussels, 992 in Wallonia and 1,002 in Flanders), in a representative sample of Belgians aged 18 and over, and conducted the survey from 25 May to 1 June 2021. The interviews were conducted online.
