The best (and worst) countries to live in in the Covid-19 era

We have been living with the coronavirus pandemic for more than a year now; which to date has made a total of more than three million deaths. Covid-19 has brought the whole world to its knees, but it is undeniable that some countries have coped with these chaotic months better than others.

Over the months we have had to repeatedly question our ideas of which states could best address this health crisis. Advanced economies such as those of the United States and the United Kingdom, classified under various pre-2020 measures as the most prepared for a pandemic, have repeatedly been overwhelmed by infections, lack of health care and deaths. Meanwhile, other countries – including some considered to be developing – have far exceeded expectations, almost eliminating Covid-19 within their borders.

Globally, quarantines and lockdowns were imposed at different times and for different lengths, various strategies were considered, and the restrictions differed in severity from government to government. Some countries have quickly started administering vaccines, others have instituted the green pass in an attempt to fight the virus and say goodbye to the health crisis. But which countries have best dealt with this pandemic? And why?

The answer comes Bloomberg, which took into consideration 53 states (whose economies before the pandemic exceeded $ 200 billion), with the aim of determine the best places to live in the coronavirus era.

The Covid Resilience Ranking uses a wide range of data (collected by both the American magazine and Johns Hopkins University) to analyze in which states of the world the pandemic has been and still is managed most effectively, with minimal social and economic hardship. Bloomberg he used 10 key parameters, including the number of cases, death rates, vaccine provision, the ability to track and trace positives, but also the local health system and the impact of restrictions on the economy and citizens’ freedom of movement.

In the gallery above you can find the results of the Covid Resilience Ranking, in one ranking of the 5 best (and worst) countries to live in in the era of Covid-19.

WHERE IS ITALY IN THE RANKING?
First example to follow, then a rapid descent in the rankings. Italy finished 37th in the Covid Resilience Ranking. Compared to the previous months, we have risen a few places, but it is impossible not to notice that in front of us there are states considered to be developing as South Africa, Nigeria, India, Pakistan and Chile.

If you want to look at the glass half full, Italy registers one fair vaccination coverage of 14.3%. But to bury our beautiful country is the death rate of 2.5% (percentage relative to the data of the last month), among the highest of all the 53 countries considered.

Furthermore, Bloomberg inserts Italy – together with states such as the USA, Brazil, Mexico, India, UK, Russia and France – in the list of territories that continue to be epicenter of the pandemic. Certainly a record that we would rather not have.
