Quite expectedly, representatives of the specialized media liked the video game very much – the role-playing project about magic received 86 points out of 100 possible on Metacritic based on 34 reviews, the situation is similar on OpenCritic. Journalists believe that this is the best thing that has happened to the franchise since the release of books and films.
In brief reviews on Metacritic, Western journalists who received a copy of the game in advance note that Hogwarts Legacy is exactly the game that fans of the series have been dreaming of for twenty years. And, which is also important, Harry Potter fans also worked on the project – this is noticed in small details, the general atmosphere, the development of the castle and all sorts of plot points that reveal the lore of the franchise. For example, the media believe that the authors of the role-playing game gave gamers a real simulator of a wizard who entered Hogwarts training – with lessons, entertainment, exciting events and more.
The journalists also dispelled the widespread belief that the huge open world of the project would be empty and boring – this is absolutely not the case. Employees of major specialized publications note that the virtual world is literally overflowing with various random events, points of interest, fires for fast travel, unusual locations and many secondary tasks that reveal the history of what is happening. True, not everyone liked side quests – journalists note that secondary quests turned out to be an order of magnitude more boring than the main storyline, which, of course, is quite normal for role-playing games.
Separately, journalists criticized the crafting system, which is tied to certain timers and does not allow you to immediately create what the player needs, plus the graphic component and texture loading when moving quickly on a broomstick or pet. However, these shortcomings are likely to be corrected by the publisher in the near future – it is worth recalling that in the modern video game market, not a single AAA novelty comes out ready right away. But, in any case, the media are confident that the disadvantages are more than offset by the advantages of the project, so Hogwarts Legacy will appeal to both fans of the franchise and those who have never heard of a boy with a scar on his forehead.
