The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is bidding for a large and important project for Central Greece, which is a chronic and constant request of the local government, institutions and citizens.

This is the road axis Lamia – Karpenisi and more specifically for the sections Stavros Lamia – Kastri and Neochoraki – Timfristos tunnel, with a total length of 22 km.

The project has a budget of 100 million euros and preparations are already underway for the tender to go on the air in the near future.

The new road section, for which its connection with the E65 is foreseen, will have 1 + 1 lanes of traffic in each direction and a central islet with a metal parapet, aiming to be transformed into a modern highway of Central Greece.

The construction of the Road Axis “Laia – Karpenisi”, concerns the prospects of serving the other neighboring geographical units at the level of Central Greece. The existing road, which passes through all the settlements in the area, many years ago did not meet the needs and much more the modern requirements.

With the construction of the new road the route from Karpenisi to Lamia will be reduced by 25 minutes.

It should be noted that recently the Governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos blamed the previous leaderships of the Ministry of Environment and Public Works, as the studies of the project had not progressed and remained in the drawers for many months.

The current leadership of the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works requested the acceleration of the procedures in order for the procedures for the implementation of the road axis to proceed. .

It is recalled that in 2018, in a letter to the then Regional Minister of Central Greece, Costas Bakogiannis, to the former Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Spirtzis, he referred to three major projects that did not go ahead for even 30 months, despite the fact that either funding had been secured or the Region had undertaken to finance them.

Among them is the study of the Lamia-Karpenisi road axis (Neochoraki Section – East mouth of the Timfristos tunnel, which although a credit of 6 million euros had been approved, after 30 months the contracts for the submission of preliminary studies had not even been signed.
