The 2024 Oscar-winning animation, “The Boy and the Heron”, arrives on Netflix’s catalog on October 7, as announced by the platform.
The Japanese title is the latest work by Hayao Miyazaki (“Spirited Away” and “My Neighbor Totoro”) produced by Studio Ghibli.
Production began in 2016, according to the producer Toshio Suzuki . At the time, Miyazaki had announced his retirement, but abandoned the idea to develop this project, which caused a lot of curiosity in its announcement, since the director kept a big secret about the name and synopsis of the film for a while.
The plot is about young Mahito Maki, who suffers a painful family tragedy during World War II and must immediately move to the countryside, where his father works for a family that makes planes for the Japanese army.
Isolated, Mahito begins to explore the mysterious landscapes and encounters a gray heron that the boy often sees.
