Mexican actor and producer Gael García Bernal confirmed that he is working on a spin-off of “The Boys: México”, which adds another plot to the universe of the acclaimed Amazon Prime Video series, “The Boys”.
“I’m very excited about what we can do, because we can do something very interesting in Latin America,” said the producer in an interview with Variety this week.
“The Boys: México” is expected to follow the animated series “Diabólicos” and the college-set live-action “Gen V”.
Amazon studios have not commented on the topic, and little is known about the story, but it can already be said where it will be set: in Mexico.
Furthermore, Gael García Bernal’s involvement pleased the public, as he also participated in the Marvel project Werewolf by Night.
Diego Luna was appointed as another executive producer of the series, and is known for working on another mega-franchise, between Andor and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon, has previously commented to EntertainmentWeekly that showrunner and franchise architect Eric Kripke has had a vision for where this story will take for years, and the two have been in conversation about what comes next.
“It’s probably premature to say anything other than that we trust Eris, and if he’s interested in continuing the story, we’ll be first in line to work hard to make it happen. But right now we’re focused on ‘Gen V’ and the fourth season of ‘The Boys,’” according to Sanders.
