The British government today promised to speed up the process of examining asylum requests, as many protests against immigrants in front of hotels used to host them in various cities of the United Kingdom have been organized. Interior Minister Ivet Cooper said in a statement that the time required to examine the requests is “completely unacceptable” and heralded the establishment of an independent organization that would help the courts. Today there are about 51,000 requests to be awaited and on average it takes a year to complete the process of each, according to the government. Measures have already been taken to accelerate the procedure and authorities say that delays in the examination of appeals are the main reason for the limited number of deportations.
