The Minister of Intergovernmental Relations of Great Britain Pat McFadden (Pat McFadden) at a joint meeting of the Committee of the House of Commons and the House of Lords on National Security proposed to discuss the issue of the ban on the use of cryptocurrencies for donations to political organizations.

The minister explained his proposal with fears that anonymous digital donations could make financing of politicians opaque. According to him, donations in cryptocurrency complicate control over sources of funds, which may threaten to hold honest elections in the UK.

“If we want to protect our democracy, then we need to study how new technologies affect the financing of political parties,” Makfadden explained.

The official said that his proposal was a response to the plans of the Reform UK party, headed by Nigel Farage, take donations in bitcoins, broadcasts, Solar and USDC.

Earlier, experts of the anti -corruption non -profit organization Spotlight on Corruption warnedthat donations in digital assets can become a way of laundering illegal income.

On the eve of the UK Financial Supervision Office (FCA) announced the introduction of new rules since 2026, obliging all cryptocurrency companies and services to transfer to tax service (HMRC) detailed data on customer transactions.
