The British Royal Family joins voices at Climate Change Summit

Hundreds of world leaders to attend Glasgow Global Climate Change Summit the Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Bob Ward, a spokesman for the Grantham Research Institute, told the Daily Telegraph: “Prince Charles and Prince William have shown great interest. After all, Prince Charles is known for his sensitivity to these issues. I believe that the “strong presence” of the royal family is “absolutely useful”, as it will show that the United Kingdom is serious about climate change».

The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Charles are expected to address the conference, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Gareth Redmond-King, head of the UK-based non-profit Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, said the presence of the royal family at the conference showed that Britain was doing its best to ensure that countries would leave the conference adopting the Paris Agreement.

Prince Charles is a well-known environmental activist and in recent years he has joined the side of his son William, who has established the Earthshot Prize – an award that recognizes innovative environmental solutions to the greatest challenges facing the planet.

This year’s United Nations Conference on Climate Change, as the Athens News Agency points out, is considered one of the most critical in the history of the planet, as the consequences of climate change are more visible than ever. The earth’s temperature has risen sharply, while in the summer the planet suffered from devastating fires and droughts. Scientists around the world warn that global warming must be reduced by 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The work of the Climate Change Summit (COP26) will take place from 1 to 5 November.
