The business story of the first Greek (handmade) jeep

The first two cars made in Greece received registration numbers yesterday. These are two handmade jeeps of the company “KERAMPOS CARS MANUFACTURING”, which made use of the provisions of the “Individual Vehicles of Special Construction” (M.O.I.K.).

The cost of each car amounts to 22,000 euros + VAT and, according to company executives, is a vehicle suitable for islands, due to its construction materials.

At present, this is not a mass production, as the company does not have large facilities (headquartered in Athens, the company has been present in the automotive field for several years as a construction / conversion company).

If there is a sufficient number of confirmed orders and fundraising through financing programs, then the company can grow in staffing and building facilities, with the aim of producing more vehicles.

As executives of “KERAMPOS CARS MANUFACTURING” claim, the aim is to join a program of the Development Law, in order to satisfy more orders.

The history of the project

The first step for the development of the project was made with a decision of 2014, which created, for the first time, the regulatory framework, which defined the procedures and technical requirements for the approval of the circulation of “Individual Vehicles of Special Construction” (M.O. I.K.).

MOIK is defined as a used vehicle that has undergone substantial alterations and changes to the main features, which are not included in the main features permitted by the provisions in force, but retains the identity of the original vehicle (eg used engine or other components). According to car market executives, Greek law has much in common with British law.

Then in 2016, the first application was submitted by “KERAMPOS CARS MANUFACTURING IKE” for the issuance of individual approval of a passenger vehicle category M1, with the vehicles already ready, and after some time, at the end of 2021, the duties were determined and the fees from the Customs Directorate of the Ministry of Finance.

Then and after the upgrade of the Computer System of the Ministry of Transport, the necessary adjustments were made and the first marketing licenses were issued.

The characteristics of the vehicle

About “KERABOSS SUPER K”, offered in 2 and 4 seater versions. It has a 1,000 cc engine, producing 72 hp.

It has a length of 3375 mm, a width of 1560 mm and a height of 1590 mm and is available upon request.

According to company executives, construction materials, such as e.g. the polyester body, remain almost “untouched” by sea salt.

For this reason, as they report, the vehicle becomes suitable for island areas and most likely, for short-term rental companies.
