Vivo is known for its low- and mid-budget devices, but what about flagships? Previous generations of flagship X-series models lost to competitors in some respects – for example, the X60 Pro + did not have moisture protection, stereo speakers and wireless charging support, and the X50 Pro was built on the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset. In Vivo X70 Pro +, the manufacturer has corrected all these misunderstandings and improved many other parameters. Has the smartphone become a true competitive flagship? Let’s figure it out!

Equipment
I usually don’t pay much attention to the box the phone comes in, but this time I need to make an exception. Firstly, it is quite large, which is unusual in our time of concern for the environment. Secondly, the cardboard is embossed under the skin, which makes it look like those leather boxes in which Vertu phones were once delivered. The organization of the filling is also interesting: the smartphone is in a separate book with a cutout for the camera, under it are all the accessories, each in its own compartment.

Inside is exactly the rich kit that you expect from a flagship – a 66W charger, a USB Type-C cable, a plastic case with eco-leather, wired headphones, a USB-C to minijack adapter, a clip to eject the SIM tray and brochures.

Appearance
The design of the smartphone is calm, it is aimed at ease of use – despite its rather large size, the Vivo X70 Pro + fits comfortably in the hand thanks to the display and back curved at the edges. The upper and lower faces are flat, the device can be placed vertically on any of them. The frames are minimal, the display occupies 91% of the front surface.

The black version that came to review has a satin glass back, which is very pleasant to the touch and does not collect fingerprints. Also on sale are orange and blue versions, the back of which is made of “vegan” leather. The cameras are located in the upper left of the back, to the right of them is a ceramic insert with the Vivo and Zeiss logos. It is designed to visually enlarge the camera block, and it is also mirrored – with proper skill, you can take selfies directly on the main camera, as in the good old days.

On the right side there is a power button and a coupled volume button, on the top there is an additional microphone and an infrared port, on the bottom there is a tray for two nanoSIM cards (there is no support for memory cards), the main microphone, a USB Type-C port and a multimedia speaker.

The front camera is located in a hole in the center of the upper part of the display, and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is hidden below the display. The speed of its work is amazing, the screen is unlocked instantly. The disadvantages are not the most convenient location – if the power and volume keys lie exactly under the finger, then you have to reach for the scanner a little – it was worth placing it a centimeter higher.

Display
Vivo X70 Pro+ features a huge ultra-clear display with WQHD+ (3200×1440 pixels) resolution and 518 ppi pixel density. The AMOLED panel delivers deep blacks along with good contrast ratios, great viewing angles and vibrant colors. At maximum brightness, the screen remains readable in direct sunlight, and at minimum it is comfortable to use in the dark. The display is slightly bent on the sides, which has a positive effect on the convenience of gesture control, while all the information is readable, there are no glare and dimming at the edges, I also did not notice accidental clicks.

The maximum screen refresh rate is 120 Hz, in the settings you can select the adaptive mode, when the system itself selects the refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, and also force the frequency to be set to 60 or 120 Hz. DC dimming is present, but for some reason it was hidden in the developer menu.

There is also a widely customizable Always On Display (AOD) mode, in addition to the clock, you can display your own images and inscriptions.

Admittedly, the Vivo X70 Pro+ has one of the best displays on the market, rivaling those of the flagship series Samsung Galaxy S22 and Apple iPhone 13 Pro.
Performance
The smartphone is built on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ 5G chipset, it differs from the “regular” 888, in fact, only by the increased maximum frequency of the most powerful Cortex-X1 core – 2.995 versus 2.84 GHz. The numbers in the benchmarks are flagship, but throttling has not gone away – after 15 minutes of load, performance drops to 75-80%. The body temperature at the same time is tangible 40-45 degrees, it becomes uncomfortable to hold the device.

They did not stint with memory, the basic version is 8/256 GB, the most fancy one is 12/512 GB. On the review, the “average” equipment is 12/256, and in addition to 12 GB of fast RAM, you can add another 4 GB from a less fast internal storage. To be honest, I can’t imagine when this would be needed.

The interface is very fast and smooth, the shell is flexible, everyone can customize it for themselves.

As a result, we get a smartphone that instantly copes with all everyday tasks, but is not very suitable for long games. Speaking of games, the manufacturer has provided several interesting features that affect the gaming experience. For example, frame interpolation (the dedicated V1 chip is responsible for this, we’ll talk more about it in the section on cameras), 4D vibration and improved visibility in dark areas.

cameras
Perhaps the cameras are the main feature of this smartphone. There are 4 lenses on the back: the main one is 50 megapixels, the wide-angle one is 48 megapixels, as well as two telephoto lenses – 12 megapixels twice and 8 megapixels five times. All cameras have autofocus and optical image stabilization (OIS), which, among other things, allows you to use the “wide” as a macro camera. The wide-angle camera for better stabilization is equipped with a micro gimbal, first seen on the main lens of the Vivo X50 Pro. The entire camera block is covered by a single Zeiss T* coated glass to reduce flare and ghosting in photos.

The dedicated V1 chip is designed to take the load off the Snapdragon 888+. It helps with the processing of HDR shots, improves the quality of night photos, and also reduces noise. There is a pro mode that allows you to specify the main shooting parameters yourself:

From the main camera, amazing shots are obtained with natural color reproduction, without scoring contrast and twisting juiciness.

Both telephoto lenses produce highly detailed shots, colors do not distort. Photos on the main camera and the camera with a fivefold zoom:

The ultra-wide-angle camera takes very decent sharp photos, removes all distortions in the frame on its own, but sometimes makes a little mistake with color reproduction. In the gallery below, the first photo is taken to the “wide angle”, the second and third – to the 5x telephoto camera:

Despite high-quality optics and a dedicated processor, the rule “the more light, the better the photo” has not gone anywhere.

At night, the pictures are quite noisy, the five-fold zoom lens suffers more than others with a lack of light:

Macro mode is activated automatically when shooting from a short distance, but you can also start it manually right from the main screen of the camera.

The quality of the picture received from the front camera is high, there is a beautifier and various effects.

Sound
The stereo speakers are quite high-quality, I will only note not very rich basses. The volume is average, but more than enough for watching movies and videos. Wired headphones from the kit are unlikely to suit music lovers, the sound in them is not the brightest, but the complete adapter from USB-C to a standard minijack corrects the situation.

Battery
The built-in lithium-polymer battery has a capacity of 4500 mAh – not the largest volume, especially if you take into account the high power consumption of an ultra-clear screen and a powerful chipset. On the other hand, do not forget about 55 W fast charging (FlashCharge standard), especially since the charger is included. With it, the charge schedule is as follows:
- 10% – 4 minutes;
- 25% – 9 minutes;
- 50% – 20 minutes;
- 75% – 32 minutes;
- 100% – 53 minutes.
With an average load, the smartphone confidently survives until the evening with 5-6 hours of screen operation. In the Treshbox battery test, the Vivo X70 Pro + lasted 14 hours and 40 minutes with the adaptive display mode:

The smartphone also supports wireless charging, its power is slightly less than 50 watts. Using reverse charging, you can charge third-party devices, the power in this case will be 10 watts.
Review
With the X70 Pro+, Vivo really caught up with the competition, this smartphone is at the level of the flagships of Samsung, Apple, Huawei and other manufacturers. This is a very balanced smartphone with excellent cameras, a clear and smooth screen, a nice shell and water protection. It is unlikely to suit those who play demanding games for a long time, and even during normal use the device sometimes becomes warm, but this is perhaps its only drawback.

Pros:
- stunning high-quality display;
- highest performance;
- luxury cameras;
- IP68 protection.
Minuses:
- power drop after 15 minutes of load.
May not like:
- big size;
- average working time.
