The Four of Candelaria” portrays the case of Candelária Massacre which took place in Rio de Janeiro in 1993. The plot is set 36 hours before the crime and follows four children, addressing their views on the tragedy.
Lomenha explained the reason for choosing the format to tell the story and said that the production aims to give childhood back to the children who died shot in the tragedy.
“[‘Os Quatro de Candelária’] It’s not a true crime, we mix with realism and fantasy, adventure and action. The series has a very pop aesthetic, which can speak to a wider audience than militants and activists. When we thought about the series, the first thing we said was: ‘We don’t want to preach to the converted, our goal is to give these children their childhood back ‘”, he said.
