Mercedes-Benz has announced that it is expanding the capabilities of its car audio systems with Dolby Atmos technology.
Mercedes plans to add Dolby Atmos support to its top-of-the-line S-Class models and provide owners with the highest quality audio. In addition, Dolby Atmos will be added to Burmester’s high-quality 4D and 3D sound system and Mercedes-Maybach sound system. Mercedes says the integration of Atmos into its car audio systems will transform cars into concert halls on wheels.
The Dolby Atmos audio system will include 31 speakers and 8 audio transducers that will be installed in the seats. Mercedes notes that it is one of the first luxury car brands in the world to integrate Dolby Atmos technology into their vehicles.
The audio system also includes six 3D speakers, which are located on top of the driver and passengers. There is also a large subwoofer with a volume of 18.5 liters. Each seat in the car is equipped with a pair of audio transducers, and two amplifiers provide the system with 1750 watts.
Mercedes says Atmos technology allows for more immersive audio, adding space, clarity and depth to any type of music played through the system. It is also possible to place audio elements in a three-dimensional sound field, providing a musical experience that goes far beyond the capabilities of a stereo system.
The first vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz lineup to be equipped with this system will be the Maybach. It will go on sale in the summer of 2022.
