First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation Vladimir Chistyukhin said that the agency is still extremely skeptical about cryptocurrencies. Instead, the Central Bank calls for the development of a digital ruble.
Earlier it was reported that Russian companies will be able to use cryptocurrencies for international payments as early as next year. However, judging by the words of Chistyukhin, the Central Bank does not welcome this idea too much. The regulator fears systemic risks when using cryptocurrencies, even for international transfers.
“We believe that our financial market should develop primarily through the development of the digital ruble. Regarding other cryptocurrencies, we are very skeptical, we see a huge number of risks that consumers may face,” the official said.
Interestingly, quite recently, Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev said that the ministry and the Bank of Russia had studied cryptocurrencies and came to the conclusion that it was necessary to legalize international payment transactions in digital assets as soon as possible.
