The change is you

This article is published in issue 49 of Vanity Fair on newsstands until 6 December 2022

«Good evening, I am writing to you at the end of these days at the Teatro Lirico to thank you: the way you present yourself, always kind, always respectful, attentive to every single detail, has made each interview even more special. I returned home today aware of having learned a lot and with a great desire to learn more and more. Especially if the cultural climate is like that of yesterday and today, free and open to anyone who wants to get involved». «I wanted to tell you how powerful it is today to go further, always communicate in a constructive and informative, tangible way, from a real and not just a virtual stage. I felt alive and part of a slice of ideas that I thought were utopian». These are just two of the many messages I received at the conclusion of the latest edition of Vanity Fair Stories, the festival of Vanity Fair staged at the Teatro Lirico in Milan on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 November. There have been more than 80,000 talk signups on our site, over 30,000 theater attendance, millions of live and video views on our social channels and on the site. The numbers are impressive and the edition is record-breaking: I was speechless as I watched the packed theater and watched the people outside in line as they waited to enter and loudly shouted the names of the artists. But these are just the numbers. Because it’s the stories that count: the stories of Emma, Drusilla, Diodato, Arisa, the cast of Skam and Mare fuori. The stories of Alessandro Borghi and Luca Marinelli, of Tananai, of Beppe Fiorello and of Vittoria Puccini. The anecdotes and confessions of Claudio Bisio and Caterina Guzzanti, of Ambra and Mattia Stanga, of Fedez and Rkomi, of Annalisa and Raf, of the Nuclear Tactical Penguins and of Mara Maionchi. The surreal dialogue of Valerio Lundini and Marco Mengoni and obviously the phrases of Fabio Volo, cover star this week. There are many names and here are just a few. The theme of the festival was change, above all the fact that change is you, change is not just something big and macroscopic, it is a small revolution that triggers others and that also happens in the actions we carry out individually every day.
