Yes, and this fellow is also Chinese. Meet, no longer a hot novelty, but a really popular model from China – Haval Jolion. Unlike its colleagues in the shop, Haval does not shout so loudly today about its models and successes, but, in fact, it has something to brag about. It is built on the LEMON platform, which is Great Wall Motor’s own development. What’s what and what made me very happy, read on.

Acquaintance
A little strange design, but the filling is more interesting
Let’s go right off the bat, as they say. Outwardly, “Jolion” did not really go to me. On the side, somewhat curvy, for some reason trying to appear large and bulky. In general, it lacks some visual lightness. Strange slickness of the headlights, turning into running lights … the stern is a little more tidy, maybe because the painted parts do not stretch to the ground, but interrupt them with black plastic. The taste and color. I note that the gray-blue color suits him. There is also red, and the rest of the palette is standard. As always, I look forward to your impressions of the exterior in the comments.
As you may have noticed, the Jolion is an exception to the modern fashion for plastic skirts around the perimeter, it has mostly base-colored panels, which also gives it visual size. Well, chrome, do you like chrome? Enough chrome!

A few words about the interior decoration, it’s not something that will amaze you with anything, but there is something to mention! To begin with, I’ll say that here (as in the F7 family, by the way) an unbanal selection of colors in the cabin. Yes, for an amateur, but unlike everything from the same F7, more restrained. In general, for courage and unbanality plus.

Minus for the almost empty, in terms of ergonomics, trunk. The volume is about 330 liters. Not much for this class. There is also no cigarette lighter socket here, as well as there is no fixation of the belts if the second row is folded down. When folded, the floor is almost flat, in the subfield there is a stowaway. Well, at least there are small niches on the sides. In total, four large bags from the supermarket fit here easily, it will already do an excellent job with the role of a car for the city. And, suddenly, there is a pleasant sound of closing the trunk. Didn’t expect this sort of thing, did you?

The second row is surprisingly spacious. Sitting, as they say, behind oneself (my height is 173 cm) there is a lot of space in the knees. There is also no claustrophobic effect here, although the window line to the stern begins to rise. Of the amenities: heating of two side seats (buttons on the doors), airflow, two classic USB ports and a deep niche for small things. Well, the armrest in the center. A one and a half liter bottle fits into the cards of all doors. “Gentleman’s set”, so to speak. Looking ahead, I’ll also note that on the second row you can clearly hear what they say in front, and in general it’s quiet on it.

All right, it’s time for the driver’s seat. And the first thing that catches your eye here: the choice of colors in the design (white-bronze-black suits him), there is no large gear knob and a large display. So, what, you ask? The materials in the decoration are not rich, but visually pleasing. The combination that I have on the test adds status to Jolion, or something. But many people like a calmer, black one, there is also a choice of this option. Instead of a box handle – a washer. Yes, you will need to get used to switching and sometimes I missed (turned on the neutral), but you can just turn off the car with the button and it will turn on the “P” mode and the handbrake, it’s convenient.

Ergonomics pleased. There are many niches for a smartphone and small things at hand, there is a second lower tier in the center console (hello, Chery / Exeed). The driver also has a small niche to the left of the steering wheel, well, a glove box. Small, really. On the lower tier are two classic USB and a cigarette lighter socket. At the connectors, which is strange, the indication is confused. Android Auto worked through the one without the smartphone icon. Wireless charging is also available, it is from above (and not from below, like colleagues in the shop) and there is also a convenient cable channel for wires. Another additional connector for convenient connection of the DVR is located on the right side of the central rear-view mirror. It’s the little things like that that make a great impression!

By the way, a year ago I complained that the F7 was a little cramped because of the wide center console, surprisingly, there is no such problem in the younger Jolion!
I’ll scold the ergonomics a bit. Only one glass will fit freely into the cup holder. Armrest without adjustment and inside just a box.

So. That’s not all. Oh god, there’s not much gloss in here. But the trouble is, the climate sensor unit and temperature control are only (!) In the menu. And only there is the inclusion of heated seats. Something like that. You also touch this touch panel sometimes when you poke at the screen on the go.

And about the screen. The size is excellent, 12.3 inches. Bright, contrast. Graphics … for an amateur. For me, it lacks integrity and style. There are plenty of menu items, as well as all sorts of settings. Works smart.
I’ll complain about this, when Android Auto or Car Play is running, but I want to go to the auto menu, I come to look with my finger where to swipe so that the car interface appears. But there, in the menu, full control of the climate and its temperature … in general, a miscalculation. And every time I started the car, the lane keeping assistant turned on back. I sin on the early firmware of a car from the press park.

In conclusion, about the digital tidy. There are no alternatives, only this one. Design, again, for an amateur. It didn’t work for me in F7 yet. You can choose topics, there is plenty of information displayed, there is nothing to complain about.

Management is just a little illogical. So, to use part of the menu, you need to hold the “OK” button and then click the menu with the “OK” and “Back” buttons. Unintuitive. Yes, you can get used to it, but with such tactilely convenient buttons on the steering wheel and in general, their abundance could have been made more understandable.

Oh yes, there is also a projection display. Shows speed and rpm (in one of the graphics modes), as well as cruise control settings and status. There is no super-necessity in it, but having tried it once, looking at the tidy is already somehow unusual.
It’s time to go.
Let’s hit the road
Turbo engine and all-wheel drive make Jolion very interesting
Interesting for modern cars. Generally? Haval should be given its due, because Jolion is perceived in dynamics very holistically and unslackly. Adds sensations and not very soft suspension, with which road flaws are felt very strongly. It could have been softer. But in the corners you feel confident, although the banks, of course, are present.
By the way, with my height (173, let me remind you), I sit a little low. I want to rise another two or three centimeters. The driver, by the way, is electrically adjustable, the passenger has only a mechanical backrest. And the steering wheel is not adjustable for reach … now this is sudden! And I would like to turn the multimedia screen a little more towards the driver.

What definitely pleases is the dynamics of a one and a half liter turbo engine. Yes, there is a turbo lag, and you will need to get used to it. But this is a feature of almost all turbo engines. On the highway and in the city you do not feel deprived, even where 130 km / h is allowed. What else is there to wish for? It’s not a sports car.

I can’t help but praise the adaptive cruise control. It is set up well, almost does not tupit in the stream and behaves adequately. On the button to activate it, the hold function in the lane still hangs, which is convenient. If you want, you steer yourself, if you want, let the car steer. In general, everything is fine with driver assistants, here is their immodest list: an autonomous automatic parking system, a system for saving and keeping the car in the center of the lane, a monitoring system for “blind” zones, an open door interference tracking system, a rear parking assistance system movement and recognition of speed limit signs. Not bad, right? The only thing is that lane keeping is always on when you start the car. If you do not like it for some reason, then you will have to turn it off every time in the menu.
A small fly in the ointment goes to … soundproofing. Especially wheel arches. Surprisingly, the second row is even quieter. So if you want to increase the acoustic comfort, go to the service.

What’s the bottom line? A typical representative of a modern car. You are unlikely to get any special pleasure from driving. But everything is set up well. It’s nice to steer, there are “Easy” and “Sport” modes, but in them the steering wheel is either too empty or artificially heavy. In everyday life, you can use the Eco-mode of the engine / box. The turbine will accelerate later, there will be less jerks. Electronic assistants really help. And also very good cameras around the perimeter. There is even a 360-degree view, but it is more for show and is not even enabled by default.

Well, about all-wheel drive. “Jolion” is not an SUV and 4 × 4 is more here for confidence outside the asphalt and in winter. Well, when was it superfluous?

Review
There is something to please
And now, it would seem, an ordinary modern car. But no, it was worth doing a lot on the mind, and now the perception is different. It is strange, of course, that there is an adaptive “cruise”, but there is no steering wheel adjustment for reach. There seems to be plenty of space in the cabin, but the trunk is very stubby and without an electric drive.
The multimedia display pleases with its size and image quality. The sound of music is decent and, in general, Jolion leaves a pleasant impression. Yes, there is something to complain about, but where is there nothing to complain about?

In summary, if you are looking for a modern car, driving pleasure is not at the forefront and in general you just need a faithful companion for every day, the Jolion is not bad! Also very “smart”.
In conclusion, another gallery with details: wheels, ergonomics, a lamp unit on the ceiling, a luggage hook for the front passenger and handles for wipers and headlights without any special notions.

Pros:
- equipment with all sorts of driver assistants;
- good multimedia system;
- pleasant dynamics, sufficient for everyday scenarios;
- an abundance of niches;
- a general sense of integrity and thoughtfulness.
Minuses:
- suspension would be softer;
- noisy inside;
- no steering wheel reach adjustment;
- there are flaws in the software part;
- the touch block under the display is not a good idea.
May not like:
- no power tailgate;
- lane keeping assistant is always activated when the engine is started;
- ground clearance 180 mm.
