The Chinese OPPO enters the Greek market, aiming for the 3rd position internationally

The Chinese OPPO has announced the official start of its activities in the Greek market, with the aim of occupying the 3rd position at the international level.

OPPO makes its debut, with the commercial availability, from July 4, of mobile phones that cost 299 euros, 399 euros and 1,299 euros.

In addition, OPPO is also launching wireless headphones in the Greek market, which are available at a price of 89 euros and 59 euros.

The Chinese company has already proceeded to establish a local office, which is responsible for all activities in Greece.

OPPO’s goal, as stated in a press conference, is to capture market shares comparable to those it has at an international level and to gradually expand the range of technology products.

“Having proven that we can turn innovative ideas into products, we believe that Greece will develop into an important market for OPPO”, underlined Mars Cui, General Manager of OPPO for Greece and the Balkans.

Market shares, in 4th place worldwide OPPO

OPPO was founded in 2004 and, according to market analysts, has shown satisfactory growth rates in recent years, especially in the mid-range and high-end range of devices, while in the first quarter of 2022 it was the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer worldwide.

Specifically, according to International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker data for the first quarter of the year and internationally, Samsung had a 23.4% share, Apple 18.0% and Xiaomi, OPPO and in vivo 12.7%, 8.7% and 8.1% respectively.

However, in the current period, smartphone sales are experiencing a negative trend. According to Counterpoint Research’s latest report, in the first quarter of the year the European smartphone market saw a 12% drop in sales, as 49 million units were shipped.

This performance “turned” the market back almost 10 years (Q1 2013), revealing the multitude of challenges of the current period (war in Ukraine, lockdowns in China, spare parts shortages, supply chain disruptions).

It is estimated that the European market moved under “great pressure” in the 2nd quarter of the year, due to the rise in inflation, but also after the withdrawal of Samsung and Apple from the Russian market.

It is noted that OPPO has a presence in 50 countries and employs more than 40,000 workers.

The number of users of OPPO devices exceeds 450 million euros, while the company’s products can be found in more than 280,000 retail outlets worldwide.
