The complaint of the mother of the disabled person: “In the hotel they humiliated us because it was not welcome at the table”

Tommaso is 24 years old, suffers from Norrie syndrome, a rare genetic pathology, and is the son of Cecilia Bonaccorsi, 67, from Rome, retired pharmacist and president of the association With my eyes. Together with his parents he was in the mountains, an environment that he loves very much.

The Pimpinelli family goes to San Martino di Castrozza in Trentino for 19 years. This year they haven’t found a haven in their trusted hotel and have chosen another one. However, the holiday lasted only three days. TO Republic he explained: «Some guests complained about his son at dinner, would you like it if I put you in a little room a little apart?».

Some guests in the restaurant were annoyed by my presence and they complained about it to the landlady who suggested my parents take their next meals in a separate room with tinted amber glass. She proposed it to us and not to them … I was treated like a dog not allowed in the common restaurant room. Obviously we left because it’s not pleasant to stay where you are not welcome».

The boy’s parents spoke of his severely disabled situation, but said they traveled everywhere with him without ever receiving treatment like this. «They wanted to place us in an isolated room, with the windows obscured by a mosaic. Faced with such a request we decided to leave, but I also want to let people know what happened. I put my face to it so that no one suffers humiliation like this again ».

The woman explained that she had specified her son’s situation to the four-star hotel. «Monday evening Tommaso sat on the sofa next to me, he had the bib around his neck, every now and then I helped him by feeding it. Nothing strange for us. The next morning the landlady took me aside. She told me that the previous evening a family had complained about Tommaso’s presence. In fact, she said it like this: due to the presence of a disabled person at the table. So he offered us a distant room, just for us. I was so shocked that I was only able to sketch”.

Repubblica writes that he has not received a response from the hotel which has instead sent a letter of apology to the family. «They did nothing to keep us, too easy to try to fix everything with an email. I’m not looking for money, I’m not interested in compensation.
