Anya Taylor-Joy (Miami, 1996) is one of the first big stars of the Cannes Film Festival, we saw her on the red carpet of the Croisette on Wednesday 15 May. This time, however, she does it as a superstar and to present (out of competition) one of the most anticipated films of the year, Furiosa: A Mad Max Sagawhich will arrive in theaters worldwide shortly on May 24th.

In this prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road of 2015, one of the most important films of the last decade, Taylor-Joy replaces Charlize Theron as a younger version ofFurious Empressand expectations are sky high.

The actress walked the red carpet together with some of her co-stars, including Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burkeas well as the historic director of the saga, George Miller. However, that Anya Taylor-Joy and Malcolm McRae were husband and wife was not a secret until that moment: in fact, despite having celebrated their wedding two years ago in the strictest privacy, without even inviting their family members and with only a couple of friends as witnesses (on her part, the model and actress Dear Delevingne), a few months later a tip arrived at Page Six.

«Our two best friends accompanied us and it was magical… We weren't together for a long time, but when you're sure, you're sure,” the actress recently told Variety. «Malcolm called his family on FaceTime from church… We got engaged while I was filming The Menu (2022). We kept the secret, not even our friends knew, but a newspaper reported it.”

Although they were safe from the paparazzi at the New Orleans ceremony, they couldn't get away from them last October when they hosted a second wedding for family and friends (with actors such as Julia Garner and Miles Teller among the guestsas well as Delevingne, who obviously replied), now in grand style, in the historical Palazzo Pisani Moretta in Venice.

Even though there were around 150 guests in total and it was impossible to maintain privacy in such a public and touristy place, the photographers were only able to immortalize Taylor-Joy in the few moments in which she went out onto the balcony. Happy second (first) anniversary, my love… You are the best”, wrote the actress on Instagram accompanying some images of the wedding, taken by the Argentine photographer Sebastián Faenain which we see her wearing the original beige dress by Dior (of which she is an ambassador) with embroidered birds and flowers that she also wore for the subsequent ceremony in Venice.

«I love you, in some way I have always loved you and I will always love you. Happy second anniversary, beautiful,” he replied with another post.

Before saying “I do”, the couple provided details about their relationship with the dropper. In fact, the two have not yet revealed exactly when they met, although everything suggests that it was around 2020, when she rose to global prominence after the premiere of the Netflix miniseries The queen of chess (he is part of the rock band blackberries* and we recently saw him star in the Prime Video miniseries Daisy Jones & The Six).

Taylor-Joy is not very inclined to talk in detail about her private life, but in an interview given to Vanity Fair in 2021 revealed that shortly before filming the adaptation of Emma by Jane Austen, filmed in 2019, “I had a devastating breakup… I felt incredibly insecure”.

Also in 2021 she began to be linked to McRae, in particular in May, when the first photos of them kissing in New York appeared, while Elle published an interview in which the actress hinted that she was having a relationship, although without naming any names.

However, we had to wait almost another year to see it their first photo together at the Oscars party Of Vanity Fair in March 2022 (just a month before the wedding, as we later learned).

They've since been a little more open about sharing aspects of their relationship, both on social media and in interviews. Like the one released by the actress to the British edition of Voguepublished at the time, in which he spoke openly about McRae: «The other day I told my partner that he is my hobby… I have finally found someone who is happy to sit with me in silence while I read. It's like we're 80 and 7 at the same time, and it works like a charm.”

In the same interview she also talked about the difficulties of maintaining a long-distance relationship, given that she is forced to travel constantly and spends long periods abroad due to her professional commitments: «It's difficult, but it's also nice because when we're together we really value In the time we spend together, even the most mundane activities we do together fill us with joy. In May of that year, shortly after they got married, Taylor-Joy even kissed McRae in front of the cameras at the premiere of The Northman, although it has always been on Instagram that the two are most spontaneous and open when it comes to showing their love in the eyes of the public. They often send messages and greetings to each other on important dates, sometimes in Spanish, a language she speaks perfectly having grown up in Buenos Aires.

Like on Valentine's Day last year, when she posted a story of the two of them kissing and has written «Mi amor» in Spanishwhile he responded with «Mi bombón eres tú, para siempre» in the same language.

What they will never forget is to wish each other happy birthdays, given that they were both born on the same day (two years apart): April 16th. «16.04.94 ♾ 16.04.96. Happy birthday to us both, darling.” she wrote in a post to celebrate 2022.

And although they don't seem to be planning on becoming parents any time soon, the two already have a cat they named Kitsune (the foxes of Japanese folklore who are guardians of forests and villages) and which they often proudly display on their social networks.
