The contract for the construction of the Eastern Ring Road of Alexandroupolis was signed

The contract for the construction of the Eastern Alexandroupolis Ring Road was signed today at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Costas Karamanlis and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, in charge of Infrastructure, George Karagiannis.

The project aims to channel the passing traffic to and from the port of Alexandroupolis, the airport “Demokritos”, Komotini, Egnatia Odos, without traffic congestion of the urban fabric of the city.

Essentially, it is the road connection of Egnatia Odos with the port of Alexandroupolis, it starts from the branch of the junction of Egnatia Odos and reaches the port of the city.

The project, which has a budget of 36 million euros with VAT and is financed by the relevant Operational Program of the NSRF (2014-2020), concerns a total of 3.03 km of urban highway and 0.5 km of connecting branch with the port. The project completion time is 24 months.

“Today we are taking another step for the implementation of a major road project. This time in Evros,” said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Costas Karamanlis. The project – he added – was not just a demand of the residents and institutions of the area. It is, mainly, a need for the development of Alexandroupolis and Evros. A need and a project that are part of our broader plan for the creation of infrastructure projects throughout the country, in order to become a hub for transport and logistics in South-Eastern Europe “.

For his part, Deputy Minister George Karagiannis said: “We are proceeding with the construction of the Eastern Ring Road of Alexandroupolis, with a budget of 36 million euros, a project that will significantly modernize the image of the city and highlight its strategic role. We achieve maximum security. as the traffic to and from the port, the airport “Demokritos”, the Egnatia Odos and Komotini, will be done without burdening the urban fabric.At the same time, we are strengthening the strategic capabilities of the port of Alexandroupolis in the wider region of Southeastern Europe. At the Ministry of Infrastructure, we respond with projects to the needs of local communities and we actively contribute to the economic recovery of the country “.
