The Council of Europe, the guardian of the rule of law on the European continent, today called on Moscow to put an immediate end to the “slaughter” in Ukraine on the sixth day of the Russian invasion of the country, which intensified its attack.
“Over the course of a few days, the war has killed or injured hundreds of people, including many children,” Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic said in a statement.
“For six days now, the Russian military offensive against Ukraine has continued to spread death and destruction in the heart of Europe,” he said, calling for an end to the “slaughter” “before any more innocent lives are lost.”
“The latest bombing of the city of Kharkiv (in Russian Kharkiv),” Ukraine’s second largest city, “he said. “targeting apartment buildings and kindergartens, which were targeted by unguided missiles and shredding ammunition,” Mijatovic said.

The Council of Europe had already imposed sanctions on Russia in 2014 shortly after the annexation of Crimea.
