On July 27, the number of daily transactions in the Optimism layer 2 Ethereum network reached 944,000, overtaking Arbitrum in terms of the indicator.
The protocol’s L2 competitor recorded only 658,000 transactions on the same day. Optimism took the lead for the first time since January 2023.
The surge in transaction volume is likely due to Sam Altman’s recently launched Worldcoin (WLD) project. Startup in May announced about migrating their “gas-free wallet” World App and decentralized identity protocol World ID from Polygon to the Optimism ecosystem.
Since then, the number of unique addresses on the Ethereum scaling network has increased from 4 million in early June to 7 million today. According to Dune dashboardabout 276,000 wallets in Optimism hold WLD tokens.
However, Arbitrum still leads all Tier 2 solutions in terms of total locked cost − $2.1 billion. The Optimism indicator is $917 million.
Arbitrum is also ahead of the competitor in terms of the number of active addresses per day – 154,000 and 102,000, respectively.
