The Danish Minister of Health was diagnosed positive for coronavirus and was isolated in his room in a hotel in Brussels, shortly before the meeting today with his European counterparts, at a time when his country is facing a worrying increase in Covid-19 cases.
Magnus Hoinike, who arrived in Brussels last night, took a self-test early this morning, which came out positive, a result he confirmed shortly after with a PCR test, according to a press release from the Danish government.
Hoinike confirmed on his Facebook account that he was infected with the virus, despite receiving both doses of a vaccine. He also said he had “mild symptoms, mainly a sore throat”.
“I had to cancel (my participation) in the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Health today (Tuesday) and now I am under the quilt and I am trying to let my immune system do the rest,” said the 46-year-old minister with a sense of humor. .
Prior to his arrival in Brussels, Magnus Hoinike used the Copenhagen metro and regional trains in recent days and attended a Christmas dinner at his ministry on Friday.
“It is not possible to determine where the health minister became infected,” he said.
Denmark is currently facing an outbreak of infections, with a daily record yesterday at 6,324 cases, while it belongs to the countries that have been most affected by the spread of the Omicron variant.
