Yesterday one of the users of the hacker forum published a database of more than 533 users of the social network Facebook. It contains the most detailed personal information – name, date of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, geolocation data, marital status, etc. The database contains users from 106 countries, including more than 32 million from the USA, 11 million from the UK and almost 10 million from Russia.

Journalists have already confirmed the authenticity of the information from the leak based on the records of some users, comparing the data from the database with the data specified in Facebook itself, as well as by the method of the password reset function (in this case, the user’s phone number is partially disclosed). A representative of the social network said that personal data leaked into the hands of hackers due to a vulnerability that was eliminated in 2019, but the victims are not any easier.

“Such a vast database of personal information, such as the phone numbers of many Facebook users, will certainly lead attackers to use the data for social engineering attacks. [или] hacking attempts “– says Alon Gal, CTO of cybercrime investigation company Hudson Rock.
It was Gal who first discovered the data breach in January this year, when a user on the same hacker forum advertised an automated bot that provided the phone numbers of millions of Facebook users for a fee. Now the entire database is available on the hacker forum for free, which makes it widely available to everyone.
