The MediaTek Dimensity 8100 single-chip platform premiered today – and this is a problem for Qualcomm. The new SoC is faster than Snapdragon 888, while it turned out to be as energy efficient as the older Dimensity 9000. Not surprisingly, many Chinese manufacturers have already confirmed the release of their smartphones on the Dimensity 8100. Among them is Redmi.

The company today released a teaser image showing the use of the Dimensity 8100 in one (or more) models of the flagship K50 series. And it’s a step up considering the Dimensity 8100’s performance is higher than the Snapdragon 888’s.
Xiaomi top manager Lu Weibing described the new SoC as follows: “In our internal tests, the Dimensity 8100 delivered not only flagship performance, but also terrifying ultra-high power efficiency, so games can be played smoothly without overheating for long periods of time. The Dimensity 8100 delivers the highest performance and maximum energy efficiency. This combination is undoubtedly another key factor in the performance of the K50 universe.“.
In general, the Dimensity 8100 turned out to be as powerful and energy efficient for its segment as the Dimensity 9000 for its own. The Dimensity 8100 is a 5nm SoC manufactured by TSMC. The platform received an eight-core CPU with large cores up to 2.85 GHz, as well as an Arm Mali-G610 GPU, support for LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1, as well as 2K screens.
