The Divaniamo podcast: Fidelity, between sex and betrayal

When the glue of couples in crisis seems to be the idea of ​​having a baby, Carlo and Margherita throw the cards on the table: for them, the survival of the union could be guaranteed by the purchase of an apartment in the heart of Milan. that few could afford. The new Italian original series from Netflix, Fidelity, in fact, it revolves around this double concept, projecting the viewer into a dimension where love is a card to be played as well as feelings and happiness. How right is it, though, to bring your soul to the center of the poker table?

The twelfth episode of We divanthe podcast of Vanity Fair conducted by Mario Manca, talks about this: a series based on a successful novel that thousands of readers could not wait to see transposed on the screen. Fidelity. For the most aficionados, let’s make it clear immediately: the new Netflix original series produced by BIBI Film is not a faithful transposition of the novel by Marco Missiroli published by Einaudi and finalist of the Premio Strega 2019, but more a free interpretation which, however, retains the peculiar traits of the main characters, starting with the two protagonists: Carlo Pentecoste, a part-time professor of creative writing played by Michele Riondinoand Margherita Verna, an architect turned real estate agent brilliantly interpreted by Lucrezia Guidone. The story, we said, follows their union with the hypothesis on the plate of moving to a bigger house on which Margherita sets her eyes immediately to escape the problems that afflict her.

To complicate things between them, however, will be two-thirds uncomfortable: Sofia (Carolina Sala), a student of Carlo who exerts a very strong attraction on him because of his talent, and Andrea (Leonardo Pazzagli), a young and reserved physiotherapist who will begin to make Margherita feel a thrill at every session they have together. On the table, her jealousy and obsession will dominate her, insinuating themselves like a worm between the fibers of the relationship between Carlo and Margherita, leading them to a point of no return. Between twists and turns and a hint of regret in realizing that certain characters in the book – such as Anna – have not been properly explored, Fidelity goes on thanks to a skilful mix of tension and passion and a soundtrack embellished by the song.
