The «Divaniamo» podcast: «Summertime 2» and the time of apples

If you have seen Taste of sea, the film that has become the symbol of a generation that has spent the summer looking for itself under the umbrella only to return with its feet on the ground with the arrival of the first rains of September, then you will remember that autumn is the season of reconstruction, the one that leads us to think that what we experienced in the previous three months was just a dream from which, sooner or later, we would have to wake up. In one of the last scenes of the film, one of the most successful of Carlo Vanzina, Luca explains to Marina that it was beautiful while it lasted, but that their history will remain only a memory for him, but certainly not for her, who will keep that blaze in her heart for many more years.

The second season of Summertime, among the most viewed titles of Netflix a few days after the release on the platform, follows that same premise: autumn, in fact, shuffles the cards on the table, offering us, the following summer, a completely different scenario from the one we had left, with new loves and intrigues to peep into the lives of the protagonists. What has remained the same and, above all, what will return as before?

The fifth episode of We divan, the new Vanity Fair podcast dedicated to cinema and TV releases, is about this: the second season of the series which was initially presented as an updated version of Three meters above the sky but which, with the passage of time, has shown to have a recognizable and perfectly integrated identity within today’s ultra-digitalized and inclusive world: Summertime. After a first season released in the middle of the lockdown, the series, produced by Cattleya, returns today with 8 new episodes that tell us what happened after falling in love and the storm between Summer e Ale, protagonists of one of those summer loves destined to last forever. A year later, however, things have changed a lot: the two boys are no longer together. Ale is in Barcelona, ready to compete in a new motorcycle circuit together with Lola, his new flame. Summer, on the other hand, is still in Cesenatico with Edo, the best friend who, during the winter, became her boyfriend. From the first episode it is very clear that Summer and Ale are trying to move forward, but it is equally crystal clear that they are linked by a red thread that is very difficult to break.

In a year in which we got lost in the most unlikely binge watching because of the forced stop at home, go back to the time when the problem was not opening the VAT number but understanding if the boy we liked made us believe it or not is a breath of fresh air. Through the characters of Summer and Ale, played respectively by Coco Rebecca Edogambhe and yes Ludovico Tersigni, but also all the others, from Edo (Giovanni Maini) to Sofi (Amanda Campana), from Wanda (the great Marina Massironi) to Dario (Andrea Lattanzi), from Antony (Alberto Malanchino) to the new entry Lola (Amparo Piñero Guirao) , Summertime takes us back to the time of apples, to the adolescent tribulations that seemed to be the only problems to deal with and to the season of disengagement and lightness. One year later, the strengths of the series, already confirmed for a third season by Netflix, continue to be the bright colors, the scent of summer and, of course, a soundtrack that, from Coma_Cose to Fulminacci, from Venerus to Aries, who wrote a song for the series, Last night, which will make you dance, winks at the dormant emotions that the summer is able to awaken. After the surprise ending – which for the sake of spoilers we will not reveal -, however, what should we expect for the grand finale that we will most likely see next year?

These and many other questions are answered by “Divaniamo”. Have a good listening!
