The Eiffel Tower is full of rust but instead of being completely repaired, it will just be… painted

THE Eiffel Tower it is full of rust and needs a complete overhaul, but instead it will be given a 60 million euro paint job, ahead of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, according to confidential reports cited by the French magazine Marianne.

The 324m tall wrought iron Tower, built by Gustave Eiffel in the late 19th century, is among the most popular tourist attractions in the world, while welcoming approximately six million visitors each year.

However, confidential expert reports cited by the magazine suggest that the monument is in poor condition and has rust, according to the Athens News Agency.

It’s simple, if Gustave Eiffel visited the place he would have a heart attack“, the manager of the tower, who wished to remain anonymous, told Marianne.

The company that oversees the tower, Societe d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE), made no comment.

The Tower is currently under submission in a repaint cost of 60 million euros for the preparation ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games, while this year will be the 20th time that Pyrgos will go through this process.

About 30% of the Tower was supposedly stripped and then two new coats were applied, but work delays caused by the COVID pandemic and the presence of lead in the old paint mean that only 5% will be treated.

SETE, however, is not willing to close the Tower to the public for a long period of time, due to the lost tourism revenue.
