The elegance of memory, the looks of Kate and the other royals for Remembrance Sunday

Same outfit but this time in the center of the photo. Kate’s role at the ceremony this year Remembrance Sunday was of prime importance as Queen Elizabeth was unable to attend due to back problems. The jacket of Alexander McQueen with clear military references with red details that recall the colors of poppies, the flowers that symbolize the day of remembrance, it had already been worn by the Duchess of Cambridge for the same occasion in 2018.

For British royalty the Remembrance Day it is sacred. In fact, November 11th is celebrated the day in honor of the fallen in war but the actual ceremony is held the following Sunday when the Windsors generally complete participate in the commemoration at the London Cenotaph where wreaths of poppies are placed so as not to forget those who sacrificed their lives for freedom. This event is one of the rare times during the year that members of the royal family dress in dark shades that are usually reserved for mourning events as we saw last April when Prince Philip died.

The designer outfit Alexander McQueen, which we have never seen in its entirety, debuted on the centenary of the armistice that marked the end of the First World War. Contrary to popular belief, it would be a jacket and not a coat. Tailor-made for reality, the style combines two items from the brand’s collection. To complete the look, the designer hat Lock&Co. Hatters and the pearls that come from Diana’s casket.

Perhaps it is the number 100 who guided Kate in choosing this garment. The custom of selling poppies for charity in the United Kingdom in support of the United Kingdom dates back to 1921 British Legion, the association of war veterans also founded 100 years ago of which the queen has been patron since 1952. What better occasion to commemorate this centenary too.

To tie the anniversaries we think the pins used both for the ceremony at the Cenotaph and last night at Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall: both pieces seem to come from the shop on line of the Royal British Legion and needless to say, both models are currently out of stock. Kate has even pinned three poppies on her jacket. Many wonder about the reason but the most accredited hypothesis refers to family members who lost their lives in the war: three brothers of the Duchess’s great-grandmother were killed in the First World War.

Together with Kate on the terrace of the building of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, there were on the one hand Camilla with a minimal black coat, three rounds of pearls and a hat covered with feathers and on the other Sophie, with a Prada wool jacket, in the countess’s wardrobe since at least 2015, and a hat Jane Taylor London.

The previous evening, at Royal Albert Hall, same sober elegance for the royal trio. Kate repurposed a dress by Eponine London paired with Diana’s jewels, the Collingwood pearl and diamond earrings and the three-strand pearl bracelet. Camilla it was very chic in its simplicity while Sophie dared a bit more with the dress by Max Mara which mentioned a male tuxedo.
