The EU grants 1 billion euros for Ukrainian defense industry – will be derived from committed Russian assets

EU foreign policy leader Kaya Calas announced today from the Ukrainian city of LVV the release of a billion euro to the Ukrainian defense industry, money raised from interest resulting from Russian assets committed to the European Union. “We have just had a billion euros for the Ukrainian defense industry so that Ukraine could defend it better” against the Russian invasion, Callas said a visit to Ukraine, along with European Foreign Ministry. The West has frozen Russian assets worth about 235 billion euros since the start of the Russian invasion of Stant Ukraine in 2022, with the majority of these assets in Europe. In March, the Union decided to use the interest collected from these assets to fund the assistance to Ukraine, which Moscow described as “theft”. Source: RES
