The EU is examining the role of Russia and Turkey in transporting migrants to Belarus

Russia and Turkey are between third countries that the European Union “Watches” for their possible role in transfer of migrants to Belarus, according to the commission’s representative on foreign policy, Peter Stano, on Wednesday.

Asked during a briefing by the Commission on the possible involvement of Russia and Turkey in the situation with Belarus, Peter Stano reiterated the EU’s call. to Russia to use its influence in the Lukashenko regime and the close ties she has with him to persuade him to stop this “Illegal” and “inhuman” activity.

Peter Stano stressed that what we are facing in Belarus is a “state-orchestrated and artificially created immigration crisis“, Which has nothing to do with the refugee wave that arrived in Europe in 2015 and with which Russia often compares.

As for Turkey, Peter Stano said the Commission is in continuous dialogue with her on immigration, both in the spring of 2020 in a similar situation, and in the context of the current situation with Belarus.

He also noted that this issue will be discussed at EU Council of Foreign Ministers, on 15 November in Brussels.

Concluding, the Commission representative stated that there are many migration routes on the Commission’s radar, while at the same time monitoring and evaluation all available data.
