The EU plans to impose tariffs on grain it imports from Russia

The European Union is preparing to move ahead with tariffs on grain imports from Russia and Belarus to appease farmers and some member states, the Financial Times reported today, citing sources briefed on the plans in Brussels. The European Commission is expected to announce in the coming days the imposition of a 95-euro per tonne tariff on cereals from Russia and Belarus, the paper said, adding that it also planned to impose 50% tariffs on oilseeds and products produced by processing them. Farmers across the European Union are calling for restrictions imposed on them under the Green Deal to tackle climate change to be eased and tariffs on Ukrainian agricultural imports to be reimposed.
