The European fashion jury of Vanity Fair: who were the best clothes on the seventh day of the Cannes Film Festival according to our fashion experts?

Pierre Groppo, France 🇫🇷

My favorite look: Leïla Bekhti

In: Alaïa and Chamet jewels

Why… Ok, we understood that this edition would have been … quiet on the fashion front. Which does not prevent spectacular apparitions, such as that of Leïla Bekhti, in a white dress by Alaïa, whose color recalls that of its Chamet jewels. Everything is perfect for exercising the Montée des Marches: the absence of straps, the bustier, the length, the immaculate white that contrasts with the red carpet, the tone on tone shoes that can be seen discreetly from behind. Nothing revolutionary, but a nice lesson: you can shine without playing the card of the provocation … if you have Pieter Mulier as an ally, one of the best stylists of its generation.

The opinion of 🇮🇹: There are no defects, this is evident. Ingenious momentum, not even. And it’s a little a shame: why if you don’t dare in Cannes, where?

The opinion of 🇪🇸: An immaculate white Alaïa dress on the red carpet. As Pierre rightly says, this impeccable look has nothing revolutionary, but he teaches us a precious lesson: if we really want it, perfection exists. The test is under our eyes.

My favorite look: Dakota Johnson

In: Gucci and Boucheron jewels

Why… Dakota Johnson likes to win easy tonight. It must be said that on the red carpet of the seventh evening of the festival the competition is not so fierce, but the beautiful Hollywood star manages to triumph with low hands without even resorting to particular pyrotechnic special effects. A rain of Baby pink fringes is enough for her, a couple of important earrings and a mischievous smile of his to make a clean square of the opponents. In short, it is not always traveling with a pulled handbrake, in short, it is a problem. Just have the direction where you want to go well in your head.

The opinion of 🇪🇸: Bustier, fringes – that the actress shows off grace – and powdered shades that merges with her skin: as Federico rightly points out, the most beautiful thing of this sublime look Gucci is not so much the dress itself, as the way Dakota Johnson wears him, his mischievous smile. The attitude of an extraordinary artist, both on the screen and on the red carpet, who always claims his stylistic choices proudly. On her, even the most anonymous parade model – and this is certainly not the case – comes to life.

The opinion of 🇫🇷: A splendid look for a magnificent passage on the staircase. The monochrome is always a winning choice, but the detail with the fringes of this dress – which we had also appreciated on Julia Garner and Isabelle Huppert in the previous days – adds movement, lightness, while maintaining the classic elegance of the Bustier model.

My favorite look: Liya Kebede

In: Alexander McQueen

Why… The impalpable fabric, the color, the collar-a sort of deconstructed ruffles-the flounces, the very long sleeves … all in this look, clearly inspired by the Victorian era, from the autumn-winter 2025 collection of Seán McGirr, recalls the best of Lee, but it also brings me back to the time of Olivier theyeyskens for Rochhas, when to be Gothic on the red carpet era era. A right thing. The fact that the top model is not made up and that her hair is gathered in a slightly disheveled chignon is the irrefutable proof that has understood everything about the dress she wears: the effect is dramatic, but incredibly modern.

The opinion of 🇫🇷: Once again, the proof that black is the most effective color on the red carpet of this Cannes Film Festival! Even if … could it be a very dark blue? I like the somewhat chic-gothic (and therefore very McQueen) touch of this look worn by Liya Kebede, and the gorgier effect that contrasts with the narrow life point. All accompanied by a super natural make-up and a hairstyle of perfect simplicity: it can be said that it is an impeccable look.

The opinion of 🇮🇹: I love the super model and I find the dress is a nice dress. But it is only worn, not interpreted as we would expect from her. The accessories, as well as make -up and wig are listless. In some cases the expectations are high, and disappointing them is unforgivable.
