The European Parliament’s legal affairs committee supports the immunity of MEPs Tarabella and Coccolino

The MEPs of the Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament voted unanimously on Tuesday (31/1) in favor of lifting the immunity of MEPs Mark Tarabella and Andrea Coccolino at the request of the Belgian authorities and on the occasion of their involvement in the Qatargate corruption scandal.

In particular, the Legal Affairs Committee voted in favor of lifting the immunity of the two MEPs with 23 votes in favor, none against and no abstentions. The French Manon Aubry from the Left Party is the rapporteur of the reports on the lifting of the immunity of the two MEPs and former members of the EP Socialist group.

The date for the vote that will take place in the Plenary of the European Parliament regarding the lifting of the immunity of the two MEPs has not yet been determined. The vote will take place either in the mini Plenary in Brussels (February 1-2), or in the Strasbourg Plenary (February 13-16).
