Although the first quarter is already far behind, experts from the analytical company IDC have just summed up its results in the European market for smart home devices. They concluded that in the first quarter of 2021, the specified market showed an increase of 25.6% compared to the same period in 2020. This is the highest figure in the last two years.
A total of 23 million smart home devices of various categories were shipped from January to March, and growth was noted in all categories. In the largest category – “video entertainment devices” – it was 24.9%. 10.7 million units of such devices were sold, which corresponds to 46.6% of the market.
Samsung was named the market leader, but over the year its share decreased from 13.1% to 12.4%. This is followed by Amazon.com and Google, whose shares are equal to 11.6%. A year ago, the shares of Amazon.com and Google were 11.4% and 11.1%, respectively. The top five also include LG Electronics and Sony. Their shares decreased over the year: from 10.8% to 9.0% and from 5.6% to 4.5%, respectively.
